Survival, storytelling, remembrance – Józef Wiśnicki’s moving account, his memoirs originally titled “My Fight for Survival”, is published in this book as a literary translation. Born in Częstochowa in 1916, this Jewish soldier survived the Holocaust and the war through daring escapes, false papers and the help of courageous people in Poland and Vorarlberg. After the war, he married Leokadia Justman, whose memoirs were published by Tyrolia-Verlag under the title “Brechen wir aus!” In 1997, he wrote down his story for his family – complete with photographs and documents that lend the account a striking sense of authenticity. This moving text, characterised by a survivor’s dry humour, is now available with well-researched historical notes and numerous illustrations.

Überleben, erzählen, erinnern – Józef Wiśnickis bewegendes Zeugnis, seine Erinnerungen unter dem Originaltitel „My Fight for Survival“, erscheint mit diesem Buch in literarischer Übersetzung. Der 1916 in Częstochowa geborene jüdische Soldat überlebte Holocaust und Krieg durch waghalsige Fluchten, falsche Papiere und mutige Helfer in Polen und Vorarlberg. Nach dem Krieg heiratete er Leokadia Justman, deren Erinnerungen unter dem Titel „Brechen wir aus!“ im Tyrolia-Verlag veröffentlicht wurden. 1997 schrieb er seine Geschichte für seine Familie nieder – mit Fotos und Dokumenten, die dem Bericht eindrückliche Authentizität verleihen. Nun liegt dieser bewegende Text, geprägt vom trockenen Humor eines Überlebenden, mit fundierten historischen Anmerkungen und zahlreichen Abbildungen vor.
