For many years, the Felbertal School has firmly embedded the examination of the history of National Socialism and its crimes within the school’s educational mandate. A central element of this remembrance education work is the annual four-day excursion for final-year students to the memorial site of the former National Socialist concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. The project combines historical, religious, ethical and socio-political issues in an interdisciplinary manner and fosters critical thinking, empathy and a deep understanding of the importance of human rights and fundamental democratic values among the pupils. In addition to two guided tours of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the programme also includes a city tour of Krakow with a particular focus on Jewish Krakow.

Das Werkschulheim Felbertal verankert seit vielen Jahren die Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus und dessen Verbrechen fest im schulischen Bildungsauftrag. Ein zentrales Element dieser erinnerungspädagogischen Arbeit ist die jährlich durchgeführte viertägige Exkursion der Maturaklassen zur Gedenkstätte des ehemaligen nationalsozialistischen Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslagers Auschwitz. Das Projekt verbindet fächerübergreifend historische, religiöse, ethische und gesellschaftspolitische Fragestellungen und fördert bei den Schüler:innen kritisches Denken, Empathie sowie ein tiefes Verständnis für die Bedeutung von Menschenrechten und demokratischen Grundwerten. Das Programm umfasst neben zwei Rundgängen im Staatlichen Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau auch einen Stadtrundgang in Krakau mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf das jüdische Krakau.
