A memorial will be constructed in remembrance of the former Jewish Community Deutschkreutz – Zelem. Until 1938, Deutschkreutz, together with Eisenstadt, Mattursburg, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach, Frauenkirchen and Kittsee, was one of the “Seven Jewish communities of Burgenland”, the so called “Schewa Kehilot”. These communities were formed after 1670, when Paul I, Prince Esterházy took in the Jews who had been banished from Vienna by Leopold I. All seven communities were eliminated by the Nazis. Duetschkreutz was the largest of these communities and internationally renowned for its Talmud school with students from all over Europe. For many years, a memorial stone recalled the temple destroyed by the Nazis. During the course of the sale of the property and the construction of a new building in the 1970s, this memorial stone was removed and its whereabouts are no longer known. For decades, there has been nothing to draw attention to the former lively Jewish life in the town. A square on the main road in front of the museum for Carl Goldmark, a famous Jewish composer, has been selected for the memorial.

Zur Erinnerung an die ehemalige Jüdische Gemeinde Deutschkreutz – Zelem wird ein Denkmal errichtet. Deutschkreutz gehörte bis 1938, mit Eisenstadt, Mattersburg, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach, Frauenkirchen und Kittsee, zu den „Sieben Jüdischen Gemeinden des Burgenlandes“, den sogenannten „Schewa Kehilot“. Diese Gemeinden entstanden nach 1670, als Paul I. Fürst Esterházy Juden aufnahm, die von Leopold I. aus Wien vertrieben worden waren. Sie zählten zusammen rund 3000 Personen, die vorwiegend streng religiös lebten. Alle sieben Gemeinden wurden während der NS - Zeit vernichtet. Deutschkreutz war die größte dieser Gemeinden und für seine Talmudschule, mit Studenten aus ganz Europa, weit über die Grenzen des Landes bekannt. Viele Jahre hat ein 1949 aufgestellter Gedenkstein an den von den Nazis zerstörten Tempel erinnert. Im Zuge des Verkaufs des Grundstückes und der Neuerrichtung eines Gebäudes in den 1970er Jahren, wurde dieser Gedenkstein demontiert und ist seit damals nicht auffindbar. Seit Jahrzehnten weist nichts auf das seinerzeitige rege jüdische Leben im Ort hin. Als Standort für das Denkmal wurde ein Platz auf der Hauptstraße, vor dem Museum für Carl Goldmark, einem bekannten Jüdischen Komponisten, gewählt.
