Eichmann on Trial. Guest performance in Vienna

The Landestheater Linz intends to bring the production “Eichmann on Trial” to Vienna for a week, staging it in the Assize Courtroom of the Regional Court for Criminal Matters. “Eichmann on Trial” is a documentary theatre project that re-enacts key scenes from the 1961 Eichmann trial in Jerusalem, based on the original trial records. The performance challenges ritualised and trivialising conceptions of perpetrators in relation to the Third Reich and the Shoah, and highlights the dangers of widespread and trivialised antisemitism, such as that which was rife in Austria at the beginning of the 20th century.

Das Landestheater Linz will die Inszenierung „Eichmann vor Gericht“ für eine Woche nach Wien in den Schwurgerichtssaal des Landesgerichts für Strafsachen bringen. „Eichmann vor Gericht“ ist ein Dokumentartheaterprojekt, das anhand der originalen Prozessakten des Eichmann-Prozesses 1961 in Jerusalem wichtige Szenen des Prozesses nachstellt. Die Aufführung hinterfragt ritualisierte und verharmlosende Täter-Konzepte zum Dritten Reich und der Shoah und zeigt die Gefahren eines verbreiteten und verharmlosten Antisemitismus auf, wie er zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts in Österreich grassierte.
