Description
The production “Lei lossn or Last Generation of the Carinthian Soul?” uses the medium of theatre to reflect on and engage with contemporary issues in Carinthia/Koroška, as well as their historical and cultural contexts and continuities. The starting point is the historical support shown by large sections of the population for Nazi rule in 1938 and the long-term effects of a social reckoning with this past that has been only partially realised. The production explores how local forms of participation, shared responsibility and repression, as well as gaps in public memory, continue to have an impact right up to the present day. The production is intended as an artistic contribution towards coming to terms with the Nazi past, to the culture of remembrance and to the strengthening of democratic culture in Carinthia/Koroška.

Die Inszenierung „Lei lossn oder Letzte Generation der Kärntner Seele?“ reflektiert und verhandelt mit den Mitteln des Theaters Gegenwartsfragen in Kärnten/Koroška sowie deren historische und kulturelle Voraussetzungen und Kontinuitäten. Ausgangspunkt ist die historische Zustimmung weiter Teile der Bevölkerung zur NS-Herrschaft im Jahr 1938 und die langfristigen Wirkungen einer nur teilweise eingelösten gesellschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Vergangenheit. Thematisiert wird, wie lokale Formen der Beteiligung, Mitverantwortung und Verdrängung sowie Lücken im öffentlichen Erinnern bis in die Gegenwart hineinwirken. Die Inszenierung versteht sich als künstlerischer Beitrag zur Auseinandersetzung mit der NS-Vergangenheit, zur Erinnerungskultur und zur Stärkung demokratischer Kultur in Kärnten/Koroška.
