The diary of Rudolf Tintner, St. Pölten’s city architect, contains 274 entries describing 251 unique events, naming more than 125 people and listing 54 places. In addition, there are four letters, a postcard and seven poems. Combined with the interviews held at the Institute for the Jewish History of Austria with Rudolf Tintner’s two daughters, conducted by Christoph Lind in the late 1990s, this collection of sources, which is being published in this book, represents a significant contribution to our understanding of the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Over the course of a two-year funded project, Benjamin Grilj transcribed Rudolf Tintner’s diary and compiled all accompanying information, including a comprehensive biography of the author and his entire (very large) family. The edition is supplemented by a database containing additional information, which will be accessible from the publication’s release date and can be easily accessed via QR codes available in the book for each individual month.

Das Tagebuch des St. Pöltner Stadtbaumeisters Rudolf Tintner mit 274 Einträgen beschreibt 251 singuläre Ereignisse, nennt mehr als 125 Personen namentlich und listet 54 Orte. Zusätzlich existieren vier Briefen, eine Postkarte sowie sieben Gedichte. In Kombination mit den am Institut für jüdische Geschichte Österreichs vorhandenen Interviews mit den beiden Töchtern von Rudolf Tintner, die Christoph Lind in den späten 1990er-Jahren geführt hat, stellt dieses Quellenkonvolut, welches mit diesem Buch ediert wird, einen wesentlichen Baustein im Wissen um das Konzentrationslager Theresienstadt dar. Benjamin Grilj hat in einem zweijährigen geförderten Projekt das Tagebuch von Rudolf Tintner transkribiert und alle begleitenden Informationen inklusive einer lückenlosen Biografie des Autors und seiner gesamten (sehr großen) Familie zusammengestellt. Ergänzt wird die Edition durch eine ab der Veröffentlichung der Publikation zugängliche Datenbank mit zusätzlichen Informationen, welche über im Buch verfügbare QR-Codes zu den einzelnen Monaten leicht zugänglich sind.
