The starting point for the planned research and publication is a hitherto unexploited source: the autobiographical writings of the Jewish Viennese merchant and sports official Arthur Baar (1890–1984), who was head of the Hakoah football section from 1914 to 1928 and played a key role in the club’s sporting rise. The planned book project will academically analyse this source and situate it within its historical contexts. In doing so, it will examine not only the development of Hakoah’s football section but also the fate of Jewish footballers following the “Anschluss”.

Ausgangspunkt der geplanten Forschungsarbeit und Publikation ist eine bislang unerschlossene Quelle, die autobiografischen Aufzeichnungen des jüdischen Wiener Kaufmanns und Sportfunktionärs Arthur Baar (1890–1984), der von 1914 bis 1928 Leiter der Hakoah-Fußballsektion war und maßgeblich zum sportlichen Aufstieg des Vereins beitrug. Das geplante Buchprojekt wird diese Quelle wissenschaftlich analysieren und in ihre historischen Kontexte einordnen. Dabei wird zudem neben der Entwicklung der Fußballsektion der Hakoah auch das Schicksal der jüdischen Fußballer nach dem „Anschluss“ untersucht.
