Participation of the Lower Austrian Provincial Association in the commemorative ceremony at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial

Teilnahme des Landesverbandes Niederösterreich an der Gedenkfeier in der KZ-Gedenkstätte Mauthausen

 

The project commemorates the systematic murder of all those who fought for freedom, in order to understand how this could have happened, to learn from the mistakes of the past, and to create a better present and future. That is why, as it does every year, the Federation of Social Democratic Freedom Fighters is travelling from St. Pölten to the memorial service in Mauthausen, accompanied by its members, participants from the education sector and the surviving relatives of victims. This year, the ceremony will take place on 10 May 2026 to mark the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp at Mauthausen and its satellite camps by US forces, and to commemorate the victims. Prior to the official ceremony, the Federation of Social Democratic Freedom Fighters will take part in a small memorial service for Richard Bernaschek at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial.

Das Projekt erinnert an die systematische Ermordung all jener, die für die Freiheit kämpften, um zu verstehen, wie es dazu kommen konnte, um aus den Fehlern der Vergangenheit zu lernen und ein besseres Heute und auch Morgen zu erschaffen. Daher fahret der Bund Sozialdemokratischer Freiheitskämpfer wie jedes Jahr von St. Pölten aus mit den Mitgliedern, Teilnehmenden aus dem Bereich Bildung und auch mit Hinterbliebenen von Opfern zur Gedenkfeier nach Mauthausen. Diese findet heuer am 10.5.2026 zur Erinnerung an die Befreiung des NS-Konzentrationslagers Mauthausen und seiner Außenlager durch die US-Streitkräfte sowie zum Gedenken an die Opfer statt. Vor der offiziellen Gedenkfeier nimmt der Bund Sozialdemokratischer Freiheitskämpfer:innen noch an einer kleinen Gedenkfeier für Richard Bernaschek in der KZ-Gedenkstätte Mauthausen teil
