2004 was the 10th anniversary of the National Socialist burning of books on 10 May 1933. In this event, the “Zeitwerkstatt” commemorated the over 25,000 burnt books, the intellectual works of German speaking authors which were destroyed by a criminal regime of terror. In order to call to mind the achievements of banned writers in the Austrian consciousness, the formerly banned works of these writers were read by prominent Austrians.

Heuer jähren sich zum 71. Mal die nationalsozialistischen Bücherverbrennungen am 10. Mai 1933. Die 'Zeitwerkstatt' setzt mit einer Veranstaltung ein Zeichen zum Gedenken an die über 25.000 verbrannten Bücher, das geistige Schaffen deutschsprachiger Autoren, das durch ein verbrecherisches Terrorregime vernichtet wurde. Um die Leistung verbotener Schriftsteller in das Gedächtnis und das Bewusstsein der österreichischen MitbürgerInnen zu rufen, werden im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung damals verbotene Schriftsteller und Schriftstellerinnen von prominenten ÖsterreicherInnen gelesen.
