The resistance fighter Katharina Sasso, born in 1926, grew up in politically unambiguous surroundings in the Vienna workers’ district Favoriten and was the only youth to belong to the Communist resistance group surrounding Adolf Neustadtl. In the planned audio book, the recollections of Katharina Sasso, née Smutisch, are recorded in her own words in order to make them accessible to a broader public who may not have been in a position to attend one of her many appearances (in schools etc.). In addition to the important testimony of this extremely courageous woman and resistance fighter, this project is intended to emphasize the message that Katharina Sass’s actions determined through her whole life: solidarity and humanity in the face of people who are weaker or persecuted. Katharina Sasso recalls her childhood, which was strongly shaped by the political unrest of the 1st Republic and the February Battles of 1934 and her youth, which she spent in the resistance and, following her arrest, in various prisons (Provincial Court I, Schiffamtsgasse, Elisabethpromenade etc.) before being deported to Ravensbrück in 1944.

Die Widerstandskämpferin Katharina Sasso, Jahrgang 1926, wuchs in einem politisch klar geprägten Umfeld im Wiener Arbeiterbezirk Favoriten auf und gehörte als einzige Jugendliche der kommunistischen Widerstandsgruppe um Adolf Neustadtl an. Mit dem hier geplanten Hörbuch geht es darum, die Erinnerungen von Katharina Sasso, geborene Smutisch, in ihren eigenen Worten aufzuzeichnen, um sie einem breiten Publikum zugänglich zu machen, dem es vielleicht bisher nicht möglich war den zahlreichen Vorträgen der Katharina Sasso beizuwohnen (Schulklassen etc.) Neben der bedeutenden Zeitzeuginnenschaft dieser überaus mutigen Frau und Widerstandskämpferin soll in diesem Projekt jener Botschaft ein zentraler Platz eingeräumt werden, die Katharina Sassos Handeln durch ihr ganzes Leben lang bestimmt: Solidarität und Menschlichkeit gegenüber Verfolgten und Schwächeren. Der Bogen der Erinnerungen umschließt Katharina Sassos Kindheit, die stark von den politischen Unruhen der 1. Republik und der Februarkämpfe 1934 geprägt worden war und ihrer Jugend, die sie im Widerstand und nach ihrer Festnahme in den verschiedensten Gefängnissen (Landesgericht 1, Schiffamtsgasse, Elisabethpromenade etc.) verbrachte, ehe sie 1944 ins KZ Ravensbrück deportiert wurde.
