In 2011 the ORF completed its multi-award-winning contemporary history series about World War II with a four part series on slave laborers, prisoners-of-war and the return home, making a 15-part TV series. The first episode of the new, four-part series looks at the subject of slave labor under the Nazis, an aspect of Nazis’ crimes which, despite its enormous dimensions and repercussions, is not sufficiently present in the public’s memory. This system of exploitation and contempt for mankind is described and analyzed taking victims of slave labor from Austria, Poland, France and the territory of the former Soviet Union as an example. The testimonies of the surviving eyewitnesses are proof of the exploitation and slavery on which the system of rule and wartime economy was built.

2011 schloss der ORF seinen mehrfach preisgekrönten Zeitgeschichte- Schwerpunkt über den Zweiten Weltkrieg mit einer vierteiligen Serie zum Thema Zwangsarbeiter, Kriegsgefangenschaft und Heimkehr ab. Damit ist ein insgesamt 15 teiliger TV- Schwerpunkt produziert. Die erste Folge der neuen, vierteiligen Serie behandelt das Thema Zwangsarbeit im NS-Staat, einen Aspekt nationalsozialistischer Verbrechen, der – trotz seiner gewaltigen Dimensionen und Auswirklungen – nur unzureichend im öffentlichen Bewusstsein verankert ist. Abgehandelt und analysiert wird dieses System der Ausbeutung und Menschenverachtung am Beispiel verschleppter männlicher und weiblicher Opfer aus Österreich, Polen, Frankreich und dem Gebiet der ehemaligen Sowjetunion. Die Berichte der Zeitzeugen sind Beleg für ein auf Ausbeutung und Versklavung gebautes Herrschafts- und Kriegswirtschaftssystem.
