Project

Description

Many residents of the Sanatorium Maimonides are former victims of National Socialism. In order to make their last years more pleasant, the management decided to bring two plays in abridged form into the home. The composer and cabaret artist Hermann Leopoldi was among the most popular entertainers of his day, until he had to flee in 1938 and was deported to a concentration camp with Fritz Grünbaum. This production tells his story in a play by Charles Lewinsky, “Friends, life is worth living”. Hermann Leopoldi survived, was able to emigrate to America and returned to Vienna after the war. Even today, Leopoldi’s classics belong to the Viennese repertoire. “My love song” is a program with Erwin Steinhauser. He reads texts by the famous Jewish writer Issac B. Singer, Musical accompaniment is provided by Roman Grinberg.
