The EXILE reader is, above all, a book for students. The editors have attempted to keep at the forefront the voices of those who, as important eyewitness, wrote of their experiences and emotions in exile, such as Annette Richter, Stella Rotenberg, Otto Harpner, Anna Krommer, Bill Spira, Hermann Hakel, Berthold Viertel, Susanne Wantoch, Ernst Ritter, Bruno Schwebel and Alfredo Bauer. The reader will also provide an first insight into exile research, consolidate important information and answer questions that arise.

Das EXIL-Lesebuch ist in erster Linie ein Buch für Studierende. Die HerausgeberInnen versuchen die Stimmen jener Menschen in den Vordergrund zu stellen und sie einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen, die als wichtige ZeitzeugInnen ihre Erfahrungen und Emotionen im Exil festhielten, wie Annette Richter, Stella Rotenberg, Otto Harpner, Anna Krommer, Bill Spira, Hermann Hakel, Berthold Viertel, Susanne Wantoch, Ernst Ritter, Bruno Schwebel und Alfredo Bauer. Das Lesebuch soll auch einen ersten Einblick in die Exilforschung ermöglichen, wichtige Erkenntnisse zusammenfassen sowie aufgeworfenen Fragen Antworten geben.
