The well-known eyewitness, author and painter Ceija Stojka will turn 80 this year. To mark this occasion, the Institute Pitanga, the Picus Publishers and Dr. Karin Berger are planning to reprint part of her writings. Dr. Karin Berger, who has accompanied her for many years and is publisher of Ceija Stojka’s books and director of two films in which she features, will oversee the editing of the new edition. An academic essay (which is still to be written), will intertwine Ceija Stojka’s personal story with the contemporary historical events and illuminate the development of the public perception of the Roma and Sinti and the political developments of the last few decades. It forms a connection between the political situation at the time of the publication of the first book and the present and discusses 25 years of working together from today’s perspective. In addition, the extensive, in part scattered photographic material will be researched and archived and a part thereof prepared for publication.

Die bekannte Zeitzeugin, Autorin und Malerin Ceija Stojka wird im kommenden Jahr 80 Jahre alt. Aus diesem Anlass planen das Institut Pitanga, der Picus Verlag und Frau Dr. Karin Berger eine neue Auflage eines Teils ihres schriftstellerischen Werkes. Frau Dr. Karin Berger, langjährige Wegbegleiterin, Herausgeberin der Bücher Ceija Stojkas und Regisseurin zweier Filme mit ihr, wird die Überarbeitung und Neuherausgabe betreuen. Ein auf wissenschaftlicher Grundlage noch zu verfassender Essay wird persönliche Geschichte und Zeitgeschichte verschränken und die Entwicklung der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung bezüglich der Roma und Sinti sowie der politischen Änderungen während der letzten Jahrzehnte beleuchten. Es bildet die Klammer zwischen der politischen Situation zur Zeit des Erscheinens des ersten Buches und der Gegenwart und thematisiert aus der gegenwärtigen Perspektive 25 Jahre interkulturelle Zusammenarbeit. Außerdem wird das umfangreiche, zum Teil verstreute Fotomaterial recherchiert und archiviert und ein Teil davon für die Publikation aufbereitet.
