In this study, Nora Sternfeld develops an instrument for a modern practice of teaching the history of the Holocaust. A central focus is the outlook for the teaching of history which arises when the actuality of an immigrant society and its implications for the culture of remembrance in a shared present are taken seriously. Before a backdrop of practical experiences from a research and educational project to transnational views of the Nazi past, approaches of history didactics, Holocaust education, memorial site education, historical and political education, immigration pedagogy and conveyance of culture are subject to critical reflection and consolidated. In particular, the concept of the “contact zone”, on the basis of which museums and educational processes in recent years were considered as a context for the negotiation of shared history (histories), will be made productive for the subject in order to be able to open up scope for action in which it is possible to evaluate that which happened in order to be able to come to terms with what it means for the present.

In dieser Studie entwickelt Nora Sternfeld ein Instrumentarium für eine aktuelle Geschichtsvermittlungspraxis zum Holocaust. Zentral sind dabei die Perspektiven, die sich für die Geschichtsvermittlung ergeben, wenn die Tatsache der Migrationsgesellschaft und deren Implikationen für Erinnerungskulturen in einer geteilten Gegenwart ernst genommen werden. Vor dem Hintergrund der praktischen Erfahrungen aus einem Forschungs- und Bildungsprojekt zu transnationalen Geschichtsbildern zur NS-Vergangenheit werden Ansätze der Geschichtsdidaktik, der Holocaust Education, der Gedenkstättenpädagogik, der historisch-politischen Bildung, der Migrationspädagogik sowie der Kulturvermittlung kritisch reflektiert und zusammengeführt. Insbesondere das Konzept der „Contact Zone“, anhand dessen in den letzten Jahren Museen und Bildungsprozesse als Kontexte der Aushandlung geteilter Geschichte(n) gedacht wurden, wird für das Thema produktiv gemacht, um Handlungsräume öffnen zu können, in denen eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem, was geschehen ist, stattfinden kann, um darüber zu verhandeln, was das für die Gegenwart bedeutet.
