Between 1942 and 1945, over 200 women were abused as prostitutes in specially constructed brothels at the large concentration camps such as Mauthausen or Buchenwald, in order to provide the inmates with additional motivation to work. In order to meet industrial demand, the inmates’ productivity had to be increased – the greatest privilege was a visit to the brothel. Himmler wanted to expand the prostitution into an official, extensive system. The women were recruited from the Ravensbrück camp. Although the visits were very popular at first, demand quickly receded, not least due to the weakened condition of the men, who preferred to redeem their bonuses for food, had moral qualms or had heard of the inhuman conditions in the brothel barracks. On the occasion of the liberation ceremonies in 2012 at Mauthausen and 2013 at Buchenwald, the film, directed by Andrea Oster, shall quietly embark on a search, tracing the history of enforced prostitution, a taboo even amid the horrors of the Second World War. The documentary approaches the subject of concentration camp brothels with the appropriate caution befitting its female victims. Three perspectives will be investigated, that of the victims, that of the perpetrators and that of the victims who became perpetrators by virtue of their visits to the brothel. The testimonies of the eyewitnesses form the focus of the film. The film takes a clear stance against the trivialization of daily life in the concentration camps.

Zwischen 1942 und 1945 wurden in den großen Konzentrationslagern wie Mauthausen oder Buchenwald über 200 Frauen in eigens dafür errichteten Bordellen als Prostituierte missbraucht, um den Häftlingen als zusätzlicher Arbeitsanreiz zu dienen. Die Produktivität der Gefangenen sollte auf Wunsch der Industrie gesteigert werden – das größte Privileg war ein Bordellbesuch. Himmler wollte die Prostitution zu einem offiziellen, flächendeckenden System ausbauen. Dazu wurden Frauen aus dem Lager Ravensbrück rekrutiert. Waren die Besuche zu Beginn sehr gefragt, ging die Nachfrage rasch zurück, nicht zuletzt aufgrund des geschwächten Zustandes der Männer, die ihre Prämien lieber für Essen einsetzten, moralische Vorbehalte hatten oder von den unmenschlichen Zuständen in den Bordellbaracken gehört hatten. Anlässlich der Befreiungs-Gedenkfeier 2012 in Mauthausen und 2013 in Buchenwald möchte der Film mit der Regisseurin Andrea Oster auf eine leise Spurensuche gehen und dieser sogar unter dem Grauen des Zweiten Weltkrieges tabuisierten Geschichte der Zwangsprostituierten der Konzentrationslager nachspüren. Der Dokumentarfilm nähert sich dem Thema der KZ-Lagerbordelle mit einer den weiblichen Opfern geschuldeten Behutsamkeit. Drei Perspektiven sollen untersucht werden, die der Opfer, die der Täter und die der zu Tätern gewordenen Opfer, der Bordellbesucher. Im Zentrum des Filmes stehen die Aussagen der ZeitzeugInnen. Der Film bezieht klar Position, um einer möglichen Verharmlosung des KZ-Alltags entgegenzuwirken.
