Leo Luster

Leo Luster was born in Vienna in 1927. Following the “Anschluss” of Austria to the German Reich his father lost his job and the family’s apartment was confiscated. In September 1942, Leo and his parents were deported to Theresienstadt concentration camp. In 1944 he and his father were brought to the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, where his father was murdered. In January 1945, Leo was forced to join a death march. He was liberated by the Red Army and in 1949 
he emigrated to Israel with his mother, who had survived Theresienstadt.

Leo Luster was a Member of the Board of the Central Committee of Jews from Austria in Israel 
and of the Association of Pensioners from Austria in Israel. In 2002 he was awarded the Golden Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria for his work in this role.

Leo Luster passed away in mid-January, in Israel.
