Visit us at the Parliament in the Hofburg on National Day

19 Oct 2022

This year, the Austrian national holiday on 26th October will provide a renewed opportunity to visit the Parliament in the Hofburg before it reopens the doors to its location on the Ring in January 2023, following years of extensive renovations. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Parliament’s open day will take place on site once more. Discover the Chambers of the National Council and the Federal Council, find out about the alternative quarters and the reopening of the Parliament building and learn interesting facts about the National Fund of the Republic of Austria.

The work of the National Fund will be on display in the Hofburg’s Kleiner Redoutensaal. Visit the revised, bilingual exhibition “From Repression to Remembering” and learn interesting facts about the tasks and activities carried out by the Fund in the areas of Nazi victim recognition, project funding, art restitution, life stories, the restoration of Jewish cemeteries, the Wiesenthal Prize, the Austrian exhibition at Auschwitz, and about the compensation and restitution for Nazi victims provided by the General Settlement Fund, which was dissolved earlier this year.

There will also be book tables where you can browse and purchase the latest publications of the National Fund, including the Visitors’ Guide to the Jewish Cemeteries in Austria or Volume 6 of the book series Erinnerungen / Lives Remembered, which is dedicated to “Survival in Auschwitz”. At the computer stations, you can research the databases operated by the National Fund, such as the archive finding aid Findbuch for Victims of National Socialism, and explore funded projects, monuments, stones of remembrance and much more in the National Fund’s geo-information portal, FOGIS. You can also take a seat in the “Fund Cinema”, which will be showing the documentary Erinnern für die Zukunft (Austria 2021, written/directed by Wolfgang Beyer, Walter Reichl, co-produced by ORF III, Flairfilm and WR-Film). The film follows two young students from the Higher Federal Institution for Graphic Education and Research as they make a film about Austria’s relationship with its Nazi past as part of an educational project.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the interactive exhibition “Parliament on Tour” on Josefsplatz for the first time before it begins its journey through the provinces in 2023. In addition, the Austrian Mint is offering an exchange for the 5-euro Democracy Coin, made from the old copper roof of the historic parliament building. Finally, you are invited to visit the exhibition “Parliament builds future | moves | connects” on Heldenplatz.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Hofburg on the Austrian National Holiday!

Venue: Parliament in the Hofburg, entrance on Josefsplatz

Date: 26 October 2022, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
