Exhibition opening in Budapest
On 11 July 2025, our travelling exhibition "From Repression to Remembrance" was opened at the Páva Street Synagogue in Budapest as part of the Centropa Summer Academy 2025.
Centropa Summer Academy 2025
From 9 to 16 July, around 70 teachers from over 15 countries will explore key sites of Jewish and European history between Budapest and Belgrade on an eight-day trip as part of the National Fund-sponsored Centropa Summer Academy 2025:
In Budapest, the programme includes visits to the Dohány Street Synagogue, the "Shoes on the Danube" memorial and the Holocaust Museum, as well as a Shabbat service. Participants will also meet Holocaust survivors, discuss teaching methods and develop educational resources in elective groups. They will then travel to Belgrade via Subotica, where they will visit an Art Nouveau synagogue. In Belgrade, they will visit synagogues, the former Staro Sajmište concentration camp and Jewish cemeteries, talk to contemporary witnesses, and finalise and present lesson plans.

During the Summer Academy, Hannah Lessing, Managing Director of the National Fund, discussed "Holocaust Remembrance and Education in Europe, the US and Israel" with other experts, before introducing the National Fund's exhibition.
The exhibition is in German and English and is expected to remain on display at the Páva Street Synagogue in Budapest until September.
