Cooperation with national and international organisations

The National Fund works together with national and international organisations and institutions that are active in the fields of research into and spreading knowledge about National Socialism, its post-war history and consequences, and the fate of its victims, as well as preserving the memory of the victims and related prevention work.

International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

The National Fund of the Republic of Austria for victims of National Socialism is not only a symbol for shared responsibility for Austria’s Nazi past, but also makes an active contribution towards international Holocaust remembrance.

Austria has been an active member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, IHRA (until 2012 the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research, ITF) since 2001. The National Fund acts as the Austrian coordination office. Austria held the chairmanship of the IHRA between March 2008 and March 2009.

The IHRA, founded in 1998, has 30 member states and numerous state and non-governmental organisations. Its mission is to promote education and research on the Holocaust and to commemorate victims at the national and international level.

Through its activities, such as supporting the development of national and transnational programs on Holocaust education or research, and sponsoring projects, the IHRA makes a key contribution towards raising international awareness and provides transnational assistance in the implementation of programs supporting education and research in these areas.

"Our commitment must be to remember the victims who perished, respect the survivors still with us, and reaffirm humanity's common aspiration for mutual understanding and justice."
Declaration of the Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust
