Volume 6 Lives Remembered. "Surviving Auschwitz" (German)
The National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism has dedicated the sixth volume of its book series Erinnerungen. Lebensgeschichten von Opfern des Nationalsozialismus (“Lives Remembered. Life Stories of Victims of National Socialism”) to the survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
Its two sub-volumes contain 20 autobiographical testimonies by survivors from different victim groups and provide a deep insight into everyday life in the camp, death and survival at Auschwitz. The publication is closely linked to the opening of the new Austrian exhibition at Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Although a stand-alone volume in the book series, it seeks to forge a bridge to the new exhibition, which opens in 2021.
Also featuring a comprehensive historical glossary and guest contributions by the exhibition’s scientific and curatorial team Albert Lichtblau and Hannes Sulzenbacher, and by and Herta Neiß, Board Member of the Austrian Camp Community Auschwitz and the International Auschwitz Committee, as well as Claire Fritsch, Head of the National Fund’s Coordination Office for the renewal of the Austrian exhibition.
