1. Basis

On 20 September 2023, the Austrian Federal Government resolved to provide additional support to all living victims of National Socialism from Austria. With this step, Austria is reaffirming its special responsibility towards those persecuted by the Nazi regime.

The resolution provides for a one-time extraordinary gesture payment of 5,087.10 euros to all living victims of National Socialism from Austria under National Fund criteria.

2. Requirements

Persons who have been recognised as victims of National Socialism by the National Fund and have previously received a gesture payment do not need to submit a renewed application. In order to receive the extraordinary gesture payment, contact information, bank details and a recent proof of life certificate must be submitted to the National Fund.

The National Fund sent letters out to eligible persons at the end of October 2023 and informing them about the payments and enclosing a form to update their contact information, bank details and for proof of life certificate.

4. Instructions for filling out the form

By completing and signing the form in full, you agree to receive an extraordinary gesture payment. Please indicate on the form how you would like to receive the payment.

In order to make the extraordinary gesture payment the National Fund requires a current proof of life certificate. The proof of life certificate can be issued by an official department (e.g. social security institution, municipal office, district administration, local authority/council, the police, a court), by a notary, an Austrian diplomatic mission (e.g. embassy, consulate), a state-run care institution, a medical doctor. Please note that the proof of life certificate must have been issued on 20 September 2023 or later.

If you would like to submit your form to the office of the National Fund in person, you are not required to provide a proof of life certificate certified by the mentioned institutions, but we do request you to bring a valid government-issued photo ID. We kindly request you to make an appointment by telephone at +43 1 408 12 63 or by email to office@nationalfonds.org. The National Fund has its offices at Kirchberggasse 33-35, 1070 Vienna. Office hours are Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Submitting the form

6. Processing and payment

Once the National Fund has received your completed and signed form, it will start the payment process.

The National Fund will commence the payments to the oldest cohorts before the end of this year and continue them in 2024.
