International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance
The National Fund of the Republic of Austria for victims of National Socialism is not only a symbol for shared responsibility for Austria’s Nazi past, but also makes an active contribution towards international Holocaust remembrance.
Austria has been an active member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, IHRA (until 2012 the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research, ITF) since 2001. The National Fund acts as the Austrian coordination office. Austria held the chairmanship of the IHRA between March 2008 and March 2009.
At present, the IHRA, established in 1998, comprises over 30 member states, as well as numerous state and non-governmental organizations. It works to promote Holocaust education, research and remembrance on a national and international level.
Through its activities, such as supporting the development of national and transnational programs on Holocaust education or research, and sponsoring projects, the IHRA makes a key contribution towards raising international awareness and provides transnational assistance in the implementation of programs supporting education and research in these areas.
"Our commitment must be to remember the victims who perished, respect the survivors still with us, and reaffirm humanity's common aspiration for mutual understanding and justice."
